World Tourism Day

The 2020 edition of World Tourism Day, comes with the theme of "Tourism and Rural Development". It will celebrate the unique role that tourism plays in providing opportunities outside of big cities and preserving cultural and natural heritage all around the World.(Courtesy: Google)

On this day, I would like to take the opportunity to introduce to you all - my hometown Karwar from a view with my perspective!

Karwar -  is in the Indian state of Karnataka, lies on the west coast of Southern India at the mouth of the Kali river. Most of you might have not even heard of this City. Karwar lies in the border of Karnataka near Goa. Formerly known as Carwar, the city is known for it calm and beautiful beaches and the variety of fishes that it has to offer.

Karwar has a natural beauty with a historical background. Yes, starting from "London Bridge" - believed to have been built by the Britishers during their invasion in India to the fort built by Tipu Sultan - my city has it all. The scenic beauty is something which none of the beaches or popular tourism places around the World would offer.

Karwar is not a very famous tourism place. Hence, it is only during a road trip towards Goa or Mumbai that people get acquainted with the city here. This city is a home to many beaches. Popular among them :

1. Rabindranath Tagore beach: Named after the renouned poet Mr. Rabindranath Tagore who named Karwar as the "Kashmir Of Karnataka" awestruck with the beauty it had to offer.  Sahyadri at one end and the beautiful Arabian sea at the other. A lot of our school picnics right from KG was always here. The beach has a separate play area for kids and a beautiful and clean seashore.

2. Tilmati Beach: The black sand from ballistic rocks which makes the sand black in color. It resembles sesame seeds or the sand that looks like sesame. There is a small trek to reach this part of the beach.

There are many other beaches like - Devbagh, Majali etc which is famous among the locals.

Due to the influence of Goa, the local language of Karwar is Konkani. However, over the years Kannada, English and Hindi is also known commonly spoken.

Apart from beaches, there is a warship museum too. INS Chapal which served in the Indian Navy and was decommissioned in 2005. One could get a glimpse of how the inside of a warship looks like and is a beautiful experience for exploring.  Other places of visit is the Rock Garden, Kali River Garden, Kali Bridge, Oyster-Rock Lighthouse to name a few.

As a coastal beauty, it has a variety of sea food to offer. Fishing is one of the major occupation of the people here. There is also a port managed by the Govt of Karnataka. Majority of restaurants offer a lot of sea food for the tourists. However, option for only vegetarian restaurants is also available. My dad and uncle own a veg restaurant called "Udupi Shri Krishna Vilas" - Best place if you are craving for super South Indian food - Masala Dosa, tomato omlet and gobi manchuri is my personal favorite. The chats near the beach in the evenings is a taste which can be savored and never forgotten!

A lot of places like the Guddalli trekking, the backwaters, small waterfalls in and around town like - Goyar, Jamba etc which are popular among the locals but hidden from the outer world are a scenic beauty. These untouched portion of the city is a beauty within itself.

With friendly around, with beautiful beaches and estuary and a lot of hidden beauty in and around Karwar, it is one of the get-aways anybody would long for! A long walk by the seashore, a hot cup of tea with some hot bhajjis by the rocks with family and friends, beautiful sunrise and sunset, boats and ships, the list goes on.....

So after the pandemic, while your travel list starts populating - make sure Karwar is also enlisted along with Goa - With Gokarna, Murdeshwar, Udupi and Mangalore as bonuses along the coastal line ✌️

P.S.: A lot more to be written about my beautiful city. But I'm short of words !

Life - Upside Down!

It is 6 in the morning. My alarm rings and I am up within 5secs so my next door neighbor will not complain about the alarm waking them as well 😋 कराग्रे वसते लक्ष्मिः करमध्ये सरस्वति । करमूले तु गोविन्दः प्रभाते करदर्शनम् ॥   Just while i am rubbing my hands and placing them over my eyes - I hesitate to touch my face, I am suppressing my cough and trying to check if my throat is hurting? This has been the pattern for almost a week now. This new virus has not only drained people physically but also mentally. For some of us, this dry cough, sore throat has always been a part and parcel of our lives. But now even a minute of these feeling send a shiver down our spine. One is always worried if this routine is an indication of the scary virus. What is more worse is the thought that if you have got it and are giving it to others as well. While sharing is caring, given the current situation as the doctors and govt is appealing - at this hour of emergency, what is required most f...

Turning 30 ;)

This post is a special one 😊 The one about - "Why God why 😭" birthday! A lot of of friends asked me, how special was your first birthday after being married this year? Did your husband make it memorable?   Well.. Here's a post dedicated to the Mr. for making it a beautiful celebration. From being an unplanned backpacker to being the almost Mr.Perfect planner Paveen ensured I enjoyed every bit of my birthday!  😁   I'm definitely not a fan of fancy resorts, so when we took an auto to Stone Wood resort at Gokarna, I almost felt more disappointed that we weren't staying at a hostel by the beach 🙈 But kudos for the arrangement! Having a beautiful hut by the pool was so serene! and when it was time for the cake cutting, we were trying to find the perfect place by the beach.. and we made it to cutting the cake with dj at a restaurant!    The most memorable part of the celebration was a sky lantern. I'd been bragging about wantin...

Happy Trails To You!

"Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far they can go” – A quote that suits me so beautifully well. Before I want to write about my winter trek, I would proudly want to call this a personal achievement. Why? Because for someone who cannot really bear the Bengaluru winters ..well Kedarkantha was no less than a life challenge. With not even a second of skin to be exposed to air, I survived India’s most favorite winter trek. Yes, this trek was as exciting as it sounds from my first paragraph! This was a surprise trek planned. Many came into the plan but had to drop out in between for various reasons. But still – We made it!! With initial advance booking of the trek via Thrillophia, we were promised that the trek group will consists of 18-20 people. But can you guess the number of people of our group? 105 it was. Oh yes, this was just one of our group with this number and there were atleast 20 groups more with similar numbers everyday. Yes, that wa...
